Business tidbits: Two new Bellingham restaurants open, Rite Aid and Nuthouse Grill close

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

New restaurant opens in Fairhaven

J’s Kitchen, a Puerto Rican restaurant in Bellingham’s Fairhaven neighborhood, opened its doors on Friday, Sept. 1. The new restaurant serves authentic dishes such as empanadas, salads, chimichurri, roasted chicken, soups, Cubano sandwiches, and mac and cheese or chicken and rice on the kids menu.

The restaurant will regularly be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday to serve lunch and dinner menus, and is at 1307 11th St.

Rite Aid downtown store to close

Rite Aid pharmacy in downtown Bellingham is set to close on Monday, Sept. 11, according to an email from a company spokesperson.

“Like all retail businesses, we regularly review each of our locations to ensure we are meeting the needs of our customers, communities and overall business. A decision to close a store is one we take very seriously and is based on a variety of factors including business strategy, lease and rent considerations, local business conditions and viability, and store performance,” the spokesperson stated.

The pharmacy will “seamlessly transfer their prescriptions so there is no disruption of services. We also strive to transfer associates to other Rite Aid locations where possible,” the email stated.

The Rite Aid store is located at 1400 Cornwall Ave.

Nuthouse Grill closing

The Nuthouse Grill announced it has closed its doors, with its last day of operation on Thursday, Aug. 31.

The Lynden restaurant was well loved, receiving a 4.1-star rating from 270 Google reviews.

New pizza restaurant opens in Bellingham

Pizza Twist, a new Indian pizza restaurant, opened its doors on Friday, Sept. 1.

The pizza chain offers a wide variety of pizza toppings and foods, rooted in traditional Indian food.

Operating hours have not been posted yet on the Bellingham location’s website. The restaurant is at 103 E Stuart Road.

Daiso opens in Sunset Square

Daiso, a Japanese dollar store, has announced its opening date for its new Bellingham location.

The store planned to have its grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 2.

The store is at 1145 E. Sunset Drive, next door to Round Table Pizza in the Sunset Square shopping center. Operating hours have not been published for the store.
