New businesses coming to The Portal, taco truck opens, chain gym coming to Bellingham

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

New workout studio coming

Basecamp Fitness, a chain of gyms across the country that offers group workout classes is opening a new studio in Bellingham, that will be the first studio in the state. No opening date has been announced, but the workout studio will be at 1616 N State St., according to Basecamp’s website.

Taco truck joins Kulshan Trackside

Ah! Chihuahua Taco Truck is joining Kulshan Brewing Co.’s Trackside beer garden at The Portal container village this summer.

The truck will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Kulshan Brewing Co. Trackside is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Portal, Kulshan Trackside and Ah! Chihuahua Taco Truck are at 298 W Laurel St. in Bellingham.

Free dental care in Bellingham

The Bellingham Food Bank is teaming up with The Dental Bus Clinic to offer free emergency dental care for anyone, even without insurance. The bus will be parked in front of the food bank and will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 12 at 1824 Ellis St. in Bellingham.

Wake & Shake Children’s Summer Series

The Port of Bellingham is hosting weekly Wake & Shake events for families and children to encourage summer movement and activities. Every Saturday from 10-11 a.m., families can head to The Portal container village at 298 W Laurel St. for various activities including a hula hooping class, outdoor story time, marine life class, flux yoga class and music and dance class.

Businesses coming to The Portal

The Portal container village is one of the most popular summer spots in Bellingham, and now it is planning to welcome three more businesses. “A new rotating retail shop, Zeeks Pizza, Bin 13 Wine Bar, and Portal Putt Mini Golf are coming soon,” The Port of Bellingham’s website states.

No opening dates have been announced.
