A new apartment complex will be coming to the Highland neighborhood in 2022. Once home to the historic Wilkinson Terrace, Fairfield Estates will be redefining affordable housing.

"We usher in a new chapter and we prepare for a resurgence in our city,” Perkins said.

The demolition of Wilkinson Terrace should be completed by January 2022, and the following month Fairfield Estates should be completed and ready for move-in.

Wilkinson Terrace, a 184-unit apartment complex, was completed in 1951 under the Housing Act of 1949.

Fairfield Estates will not look like affordable housing built in the 1950s with over 184 units in one complex. But, will rather be two standalone complexes with six units in each complex.
