A recent economic impact study conducted before the pandemic revealed that in 2019, the American Legion World Series poured $4.2 million into the local economy.

The study showed that the games added $129, 000 in salaries and wages.

“There is a place we come down here to eat,” said Doug Jones, who traveled from Idaho. “We love to come down to it. We thought we’d walk in and out of a few shops today.”

Jones and his group couldn’t find a hotel in Cleveland County so they rented a home in Belmont.

They shop between games.

“We like to treasure hunt and see what’s out there,” Jones told Channel 9.

“During the week, we are probably up 25% sales,” Canouas said.

Lacy Bowen just knows the tips are way up at Shelby City Café.

This year’s attendance numbers are expected to be much higher than in 2019.
