Businessman Lenny Lemoine is 2022 Civic Cup Award winner

Lafayette businessman Lenny Lemoine is the 2022 Civic Cup Award winner.

"I was surprised, certainly humbled by even the thought," he said. "When you think about the past recipients, just amazing men and women who you always look up to and aspire to be, I never thought of myself in the same light as those folks."

The annual award, now honoring its 90th individual, recognizes a Lafayette resident who has given back to the community civically or through philanthropy, not because it was their job or required by an elected office.

Since 1933, those who have received the Civic Cup have done so because of their genuine sense of commitment and dedication to the community.

"Lenny has been active in building our community since his arrival in Lafayette in 1983 with the family construction business," said Gary McGoffin, Civic Cup 2010 winner. "For the past ten years, he has served as President of Lafayette Central Park, Inc., which has raised more than $20 million for the development of Moncus Park."

Lemoine is the president and CEO of The Lemoine Company, LLC, a construction business. A Cottonport, Louisiana, native, he moved to Lafayette in the 1980s to build his business.

"The community of Lafayette is so receptive and the way that people treated us, engaged with us, provided opportunities for us and helped, there weren’t many places like it anywhere in America, I’m convinced," he said. "There is no stranger in Lafayette."

Lemoine helped take on the leadership of developing Moncus Park on Johnston Street. He said he tapped the best and brightest of Lafayette to sit on the founding board and thinks the new and future board members will persist in expanding and upkeeping the park.

"I continued to believe in what we could do and knew how important it was to the future of Lafayette," he said. "It's a special place."
