Bust leads to seizure of pot plants, multiple weapons and body armor, police say

Apr. 26—The Yuba County Sheriff's Department said thousands of marijuana plants and several assault rifles were found during a search Wednesday of a Browns Valley residence.

According to officials, members of the Marijuana Eradication Team of Yuba County executed a search warrant on Wednesday in the 7500 block of Redhill Way in Browns Valley. That search led to the arrest of 42-year-old Nicholas Bird.

During that search, deputies allegedly located about 3,000 marijuana plants that were housed in four separate structures on the property. After a search of the residence, several weapons also were allegedly found. According to the sheriff's department they included "four assault rifles, one short-barreled rifle, three handguns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, high-capacity magazines, and body armor."

Along with the weapons and plants, deputies also allegedly located marijuana that was packaged for sale, an "extremely large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms," and $28,000 in cash.

Law enforcement officials said because of a prior felony conviction, Bird was not allowed to possess firearms or ammunition.

As a result of the search and its findings, officials said Bird was taken into custody without incident and booked into Yuba County Jail for charges that include cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of psilocybin mushrooms for sale, felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and being armed while committing a felony and maintaining a drug house.

As of Friday, Bird was not listed on online jail or court records.
