Busy Huntersville road reopened after gas leak, officials say

A busy road has reopened after being closed due to a gas leak Saturday afternoon, according to the Huntersville Fire Department.

In a tweet from Huntersville Fire, drivers were asked to avoid the area of Gilead Road and Wynfield Creek Parkway while they work to fix a gas leak.

Huntersville Fire was on the scene and said there would be an extended closure as Piedmont Gas works on the leak, it is unclear what caused the leak.

Channel 9 reached out to Huntersville Fire Department which allowed Piedmont Natural Gas to take the situation over and fix the leak.

A representative from Piedmont Natural Gas said that the leak was fixed around 3 p.m., and crews are still on the scene adding the finishing touches to the repair.

Traffic control was also on the road directing traffic.
