Busy Labor Day weekend for emergency responders

Sep. 7—WILLIMANTIC — A University of Connecticut student was transported via LifeStar to Hartford Hospital after being hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning, one of many incidents emergency responders responded to during the holiday weekend. UConn Spokesperson Stephanie Reitz said emergency personnel from UConn responded to the accident shortly after 1 a. m. on Saturday.

The accident, which involved a passenger vehicle, occurred in front of the UConn safety complex on North Eagleville Road.

According to Reitz, a person was transported from the scene by ambulance and then taken by LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital.

UConn Police Lt. Andrew Fournier said Tuesday morning that the report was not available at that time, noting that the accident was still under investigation.

As of Tuesday, police had not identified the pedestrian or driver.

Reitz declined to identify the individuals, citing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

According to Reitz, preliminary interviews with witnesses and video in the area indicated that the pedestrian entered the road in front of the vehicle, which did not have time to stop.

The calls included two accidents.

According to Scrivener's report, which was released Tuesday morning, one vehicle crashed into a chain- link fence on Friday afternoon.

That accident was reported at 3: 26 p. m. at the intersection of Maple Ave. and Turner St.

Scrivener said a 38 yearold male was transported to Windham Community Memorial Hospital after that accident. He said the accident happened after the male experienced a medical emergency.

" That caused him to go unconscious," Scrivener said.

For privacy reasons, he did not identify the medical injury, referring to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

Emergency personnel also responded to a two- vehicle accident at the intersection of Main and Pine Streets in Willimantic.

That accident was reported at 9: 29 a. m. on Friday According to Scrivener's report, a 58 year- old female Massachusetts resident who had minor injuries was transported to Windham Community Memorial Hospital.
