A Butler County man is accused of leaving his elderly mother lying on the floor for days after she suffered a fall at her Colerain Township home, according to the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office.

Michael Gamel, 47, of Trenton was indicted Thursday on charges of involuntary manslaughter and failing to provide for a functionally impaired person.

Gamel was living with his 80-year-old mother, Gayle Gamel, when she fell and was unable to get back up, said Amy Clausing, a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office. Gayle Gamel was left to lie on the floor for 10 days before her son finally called for help.

By the time paramedics reached the Poole Road home, she had obvious signs of injury stemming from the alleged neglect and she died a short time later, Clausing said.

Hamilton County Coroner's Office records show that Gayle Gamel died on Dec. 31, 2021, at Mercy West Hospital.

While Clausing couldn't speak to exactly why it took so long for charges to be filed, she said investigations of this nature often take time.

Jail records did not list Michael Gamel as an inmate of the Hamilton County Justice Center as of this publication. Court documents regarding this case were unavailable Thursday afternoon.
