The Butler men's basketball team received a sizable addition to its frontcourt Tuesday with Bucknell transfer Andre Screen committing to the program.

The 7-1 center played the past three seasons at Bucknell and joins the Bulldogs with two years of eligibility remaining.

Screen averaged 11.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game as a junior and his 1.31 blocks per game and 62% field goal percentage ranked second in the Patriot League. He recorded two double-doubles with the Bison with a 20-point, 11-rebound performance against La Salle, and a 17-point, 12-rebound game against Presbyterian. The 20 points and 12 rebounds were both season highs.

Screen was a three-star recruit and 2020 first-team all-state selection out of Saint Stephen's & Saint Agnes School in Alexandria, Va.

Screen joins a frontcourt that could use some reinforcements. Last season, Jalen Thomas was forced to play out of position at the 5 whenever Manny Bates was out injured or in foul trouble. Freshman Connor Turnbull showed glimpses in limited action, but needs to bulk up to bang in the paint in the Big East. D.J. Hughes is also expected back, along with incoming 2023 recruits Augusto Cassia and Boden Kapke. John-Michael Mulloy, who missed all of 2022-23, has a final year of eligibility left, but it's unclear if he'll be back.

Bates has declared for the NBA draft but will retain his eligibility. Butler now has four open scholarships. Cassia can't officially sign with Butler until April 12.

So far this offseason, six Butler players have entered the portal: forwards Simas Lukosius, Myles Wilmoth and Pierce Thomas and guards Jaden Taylor, Chuck Harris and Myles Tate.
