Butler, Westside and Warren County advance to GHSA boys basketball Final Four

The city of Augusta, Georgia has once again displayed that, with the exception of a prestigious golf tournament in April, it is very much a basketball town. Three Augusta-area boys basketball teams will join the Josey Lady Eagles in the Georgia High School Association Final Four later this week.

The Butler Bulldogs and Westside Patriots have reached the GHSA 2A semifinals. The Warren County Screaming Devils have advanced to the GHSA 1A DII semifinals.

Butler and Westide could meet for the 2A state championship if both win their respective semifinals. Both games will be in Milledgeville, Georgia at Georgia College & State University on Saturday, March 2. Butler will play Toombs County at 3 p.m., Westside will play Columbia later that night at 7 p.m. The Josey Lady Eagles will play Central-Macon that same day at GCSU at 1 p.m. to get the Augusta traveling show started in Milledgeville.

Butler beat South Atlanta on the road, 51-47. Westside, the back-to-back 2A state champions, beat Model at home, 78-40. Westside has beaten their first three playoff opponents by a combined 138 points.

Warren County will play Manchester at Fort Valley State University on Friday, March 1 at 3 p.m. The Screaming Devils beat Portal at home in overtime on Cosa Pender’s last second go-ahead layup, 76-74.

In GHSA class 6A, the Grovetown Warriors saw their season come to and end, falling 62-47 to Alexander.

The GHSA state championship games will once again be played at the Macon Centerplex March 6-9.
