APPLETON - After 18 years on Appleton's east side, Cold Stone Creamery, which sits in front of the Kensington Drive Target, is getting a makeover.

This location, at 3420 E. Calumet St., plans to close from Jan. 29 to Feb. 10. During that time, the owners plan to make the store "brighter and welcoming," according to co-owner Cindy Wetzel.

She said while the store layout won't change, Cold Stone Creamery will replace many major interior parts and decoration during its "refresh," such as the ice cream freezer, floor tile, wallpaper, ceiling and lighting.

Co-owner Ellen Brown said she was the most excited about having new, more efficient equipment and brighter LED lights. She said she also plans to replace the tables inside with limited counter seating to better accommodate their lines for ice cream and cakes.

Cold Stone Creamery will be getting renovations such as plaster painting, LED lighting, new flooring and a bar counter replacing the tables. The store is located at 3420 E. Calumet Street Wednesday, January 25, 2023, in Appleton, Wis.

Wetzel and Brown, who are sisters and Fox Cities natives, have owned and operated the Appleton Cold Stone Creamery location for 18 years. Both said they feel the store is ready for a new look, just in time for peak ice-cream seasons during Valentine's Day and the warmer months ahead.

"Our crew is very excited about the changes," Brown said.

Brown said they'll retain all of their employees while the store is closed.

Cold Stone Creamery is an ice cream chain based in Scottsdale, Arizona, with around 1,500 locations, according to the company website. The Calumet Street location became the only Cold Stone Creamery in Appleton when the store in the Fox River Mall closed in 2020.
