BuzzFeed buys HuffPost from Verizon

BuzzFeed is buying HuffPost from Verizon as part of a bigger deal that has the wireless giant investing in the digital-media company. (Nov. 19)

TALI ARBEL: Buzzfeed is a company that I think is best known for its lists and its quizzes, but it also has a significant news division. And HuffPost is part of Verizon, which is the country's largest wireless company after some media acquisitions that Verizon did a couple years ago.

And now Verizon is selling HuffPost to BuzzFeed, while also-- Verizon says it is also at the same time investing in BuzzFeed.

Jonah Peretti, who is in charge of BuzzFeed and is also a co-founder of HuffPost says that they will keep their individual focuses, their individual missions, and that they will remain two separate brands.

Bringing the two companies together gives them a bigger-- gives them more scale. It gives them a bigger audience that you can sell adds to.
