Byars man dies after improper turn

Dec. 6—An improper turn proved costly for a Byars motorist killed Wednesday in a two-vehicle accident in neighboring Pontotoc County.

Jessie Miller, 89, was later pronounced dead after taken by ambulance to an Ada hospital.

Before the tragic accident Miller was alone when driving a 2006 Ford Ranger pickup truck.

State troopers concluded Miller initially made a right-hand turn with this truck onto state Highway 3W at a site about 17 miles west of Ada.

Then they determined it was an improper U-turn at just after 7:30 a.m. Dec. 6 as the truck pulled in front of a 2015 Chevrolet driven by Juan Becerra, 39, of Oklahoma City.

Medical personnel at Mercy of Ada Hospital pronounced Miller dead after he was taken there by ambulance.

In the other vehicle, Becerra and three passengers were not injured. Those passengers, also from Oklahoma City, are Resugio Chavez, 39, Irvina Ramos, 22, and Baldomero Huizar, 23.

Assisting troopers at the wreck site were sheriff's deputies from Pontotoc and Garvin counties and Ada and Oil City firefighters.
