Ohio State football has named its captains for the 2022 season.

The Buckeyes announced Saturday night quarterback C.J. Stroud, linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, tight end Cade Stover, defensive end Tyler Friday and safety Kourt Williams and wide receiver Kamryn Babb will serve as the team's captains this season.

Stroud was the leading vote-getter by his teammates.

Babb was also named as Ohio State's Block O recipient for the upcoming season, an award established two years ago to honor the legacy of former All-American two-way lineman Bill Willis.

Babb is the only returning captain from the 2021 team. Defensive tackle Haskell Garrett, defensive end Zach Harrison, linebacker Teradja Mitchell, wide receiver Chris Olave and offensive tackle Thayer Munford were each captains last season.

Stroud became a Heisman Trophy finalist in his first year as a starter in 2021. The third-year sophomore from Inland Empire, California, completed 317 of 441 passes (71.9%) for 4,435 yards and 44 touchdowns with only six interceptions.

Eichenberg, a fourth-year player from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, has emerged this season as a defensive leader, building on a 17-tackle performance in the Rose Bowl. Defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said Tuesday that he and Steele Chambers had solidified starting jobs.

Stover is back at tight end after playing some of his OSU career at linebacker and defensive end. The Mansfield native is in his fourth year in the program.

Williams is a backup safety who has long impressed with his maturity. He missed his freshman season in 2020 with an ACL injury sustained during training camp.
