C-M baseball downs Central Decatur, loses to HLV

Jun. 6—COLFAX — Zach Steenhoek's huge night at the plate and a six-run fifth inning propelled Colfax-Mingo's baseball team to a non-conference come-from-behind win over Central Decatur on Thursday.

The Tigerhawks overcame a slow start and downed the Cardinals after scoring three in the fourth and six in the fifth during an 11-5 win.

C-M trailed 4-2 after three but only allowed one run in the final four innings.

Steenhoek collected two hits, three runs, four RBIs and two steals and was hit by two pitches during the win.

Seven Tigerhawks helped get C-M get eight hits on the night. They also drew 10 walks.

Cole Bracewell had one hit, one run, one RBI, one walk and one steal, Cael Bracewell chipped in one hit, one walk and one steal and Hunter Stevens tallied one hit, two runs and two walks.

Nathan Sloan added one hit and two RBIs, Colton Edwards tallied two walks, two runs and one RBI and Joe Earles also drew two walks and scored once. Jake Nichols and Shane Aikin both had one hit, one run and one walk.

Cael Bracewell was the winning pitcher after allowing three earned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter in 4 2/3 innings.

Nichols pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed one run on one hit with one hit batter. Edwards got two outs on the mound and allowed no runs on no hits with two walks.

Central Decatur (4-2) scored three runs in the first inning but couldn't hold its lead.

HLV 10, Colfax-Mingo 1

VICTOR — The Tigerhawks were held to five hits and HLV stole 11 bases and overcame four errors during a 10-1 home win on Wednesday in South Iowa Cedar League action.

C-M scored its only run in the fourth but it was 6-0 at that point. HLV plated five in the second to take an early advantage.

Sloan led the Tigerhawk offense with one hit, one steal and one run. Cole Bracewell chipped in one hit and one steal and Stevens walked and stole a base.

Steenhoek, Earles and Aikin got the other three hits for Colfax-Mingo (2-4 overall, 0-4 in conference play). Cael Bracewell walked once. The Tigerhawks struck out 10 times at the plate.

Earles pitched 1 1/3 innings and took the loss after allowing five earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts, three walks and one hit batter.

Cole Bracewell allowed just two hits and one earned run in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out three.

Cael Bracewell also pitched and allowed one earned run on no hits while striking out five and walking one in 1 1/3 innings. Nichols pitched an inning and gave up two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and one hit batter.

Ethan Kupka cranked out three of HLV's seven hits, scored four runs and stole three bases. He also pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Beau York got the pitching win after allowing no earned runs and recording seven strikeouts.

HLV is now 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the SICL.
