Cable Car Sways as Mexico City Rocked Following Powerful Earthquake

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake with an epicenter southwest of Acapulco shook Mexico’s Guerrero state and was felt in Mexico City, on September 7.

Footage shared by Diego Magdoglio from the Xalpa area of Mexico City shows a cable car dangling as the night sky lights up behind it.

Magdoglio told Storyful that the car stopped moving “seconds before it started shaking”. He said there were people on board at the time.

Mexico’s National Seismological Service reported the earthquake at 9.19 pm CDT, and said it was followed by up to 73 aftershocks at 10 pm, the strongest of which had a magnitude of 5.2.
