Chris Licht, the news giant CNN's controversial and embattled chairman and CEO, is stepping aside after a very short, turbulent time as CNN's top executive.

Licht was appointed CEO a little over a year ago when Warner Bros. Discovery Inc (NASDAQ: WBD) took control of the network.

He drew criticism in recent weeks for some of CNN's programming decisions, including a recent town hall with former president and current Republican front-runner Donald Trump, whose format was widely criticized.

Licht will leave and be replaced within 48 hours, Puck News reported.

CNN's some of the top personalities voiced their concerns about Licht's leadership abilities.

Licht was under siege from within and apologized to his employees on Monday after an Atlantic magazine profile revealed he had been aware of the "extra-Trumpy" make-up of the crowd at a widely criticized town hall with former president Donald Trump last month.

Top brass at CNN's parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, including CEO David Zaslav, wasn't happy with the article and the aftermath.

Puck noted that the leader is out, apparently to be replaced at least on an interim basis by top CNN executive Amy Entelis.
