Cabot man accused of assaulting officers during arrest tied to child pornography investigation

CABOT, Ark. – A Cabot man is facing battery charges after police said that he attacked detectives during an investigation involving child sexual abuse material.

Officials with the Cabot Police Department said that detectives assigned to the Arkansas State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force were assigned a tip in Aug. 2023 regarding a resident possessing images of child sexual abuse material.

After a six-month investigation, officers with the CPD along with officials from Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at a home in the Krooked Kreek subdivision Thursday. During the investigation, police said that 35-year-old Randy Norris assaulted detectives and resisted arrest.

Detectives said they performed a forensic preview of a device from the home that had at least five images of child pornography.

Norris was arrested and is facing charges of possession of child pornography and second-degree battery.

Officials said that the investigation is still ongoing and could lead to additional charges against Norris.

Norris was booked into the Lonoke County Detention Center; he is scheduled to be in court on Monday April 1.
