Fox Valley voters selected Republican Rachael Cabral-Guevara to represent the 19th Senate District seat in Tuesday's election. Cabral-Guevara has represented the 55th Assembly District for the last two years.

She'll take over the seat from incumbent Roger Roth, a Republican from Appleton who ran for lieutenant governor alongside Tim Michels.

Cabral-Guevara, from Appleton, beat Democratic opponent Kristin Alfheim, an Appleton Common Council member, securing 53% of the vote, according to unofficial results.

"I'm proud to continue to represent the Fox Valley and surrounding areas!" Cabral-Guevara told The Post-Crescent in an early Wednesday morning text. "I look forward to working together with great future policy to move Wisconsin forward! It's time to listen, communicate and work together."

The 19th District includes most of Appleton, western Menasha, Neenah, Grand Chute, Fox Crossing and Greenville.

Gustafson wins 55th Assembly District

Republican Nate Gustafson won the 55th Assembly District race to replace Cabral-Guevara.

Gustafson, a Winnebago County Board member, defeated Democratic opponent and former Neenah School Board member Stefanie Holt in the Neenah-area district. Gustafson received 54% of the vote.

Murphy holds on to 56th Assembly District

Republican incumbent Dave Murphy secured his fifth term representing the 56th Assembly District, defeating Democrat Patrick Hayden, a software developer.

Murphy secured 57% of the vote over his Democratic challenger, according to unofficial results.

The 56th District covers parts of southwest Outagamie County, including Grand Chute, Greenville, Medina and western Appleton.

Snodgrass re-elected in 57th Assembly District

Democrat Lee Snodgrass won her second term in the Appleton- and Menasha-area 57th Assembly District.

Snodgrass received 59% of the vote over Republican candidate and political newcomer Andrew Fox, according to unofficial results.

"I think, in a very divisive political environment, nothing was guaranteed, but hard work, talking to constituents and making sure I was available paid off," Snodgrass told The Post-Crescent. "I look forward to continuing my work for the district and making our community a better place."

Goeben wins in 5th Assembly District

Republican Joy Goeben won the 5th Assembly District seat over Democrat Joey Van Deurzen, with over 5,000 more votes, according to unofficial results.

Goeben will take over the vacant seat from former Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke, who resigned from the Kaukauna- and Little Chute-area district in July.

Petersen cruises to 40th Assembly District victory

Republican incumbent Kevin Petersen defeated independent Henry Fries, securing his eighth term in office. Unofficial results show Peterson received 13,000 more votes than Fries.

The 40th Assembly District includes New London, Clintonville, Waupaca and Marion.

Schmidt wins 6th Assembly District

Republican primary winner Peter Schmidt easily outpolled Democrat William Switalla and Republican write-in Dean Neubert to win the 6th Assembly District. Schmidt will take the seat currently held by Republican Gary Tauchen of Bonduel, who did not seek reelection.

The race was unusual in that it had three candidates: Schmidt; Switalla, a Democrat who had no opposition from within his own party; and Neubert, the Republican candidate his party chose to endorse though he did not win the primary.

Neubert ran as a write-in candidate with the support of the local GOP, including at least two of the candidates who had run against Neubert and Schmidt in the primary.
