Caddo Magnet’s Jakyran Pierson tops Week 19 Shreveport Times Athlete of the Week voting
Caddo Magnet’s Jakyran Pierson garnered enough votes this week to win the Times online poll for Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and the Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission.
A standout soccer player for the Mustangs, Pierson is the first Magnet winner of the 2021-22 school year in the non-football poll. He joins previous winners that include Logan Olsen and Abby Schroeder of Benton, Mariah Hintze (Ruston) Taylor McCabe (Northwood) and Daly Nagot (Benton).
Pierson and his supporters racked up 19,816 votes, a solid 37.2% of the 53,313 votes cast in the weekly online recognition. Those numbers allowed Pierson to top a field of 11 additional candidates, including second-place Rhyan Floyd, a North DeSoto soccer player, who made a strong run for the recognition with 15,734 votes (29.5%).
Pierson will receive a backpack, a boxed lunch combo and some additional swag courtesy of Raising Cane’s.

“Jakyran’s been a very important addition to the team this year,” Caddo Magnet coach Nick Flowers said. “He’s been one of our primary offensive threats and constantly challenges opposing teams with his speed and skill on the ball. “He’s one of those players that opposing teams always need to plan for.”
Others on the 19th ballot of the school year were Jorge Alfaro, Bossier soccer; Erin Campbell, Loyola soccer; Chloe Larry, Parkway basketball; Quan Lilley, D’Arbonne Woods basketball; Kyron Reed, Captain Shreve basketball; Dakota Howard, Haughton basketball; D’Anthony Kimble, Homer basketball; LaBresha Lars, Airline bowling; Jeremia Yearby, Evangel wrestling and Autumn McNeal, Southwood powerlifting.
They were chosen because of their performance the previous week or because their names were submitted by their coach. The Times poll is posted each Monday at shreveporttimes.com with a new slate of student-athletes in high school sports other than football.
The Times online only poll runs through Thursday midnight. The poll includes northwest Louisiana athletes competing in volleyball, cross country, swimming, cheerleading, basketball, soccer, wrestling, powerlifting, indoor and outdoor track, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, bowling, gymnastics and fishing while those sports are in season.
