A new café is set to move into a vacant office building in Wauwatosa.

Here's what we know so far.

What is Idyll Coffee Roasters?

Idyll Coffee Roasters is a women-owned café and coffee roastery, locally sourcing its menu, which includes baked goods, sandwiches and breakfast items, its proposal to the city says.

It plans to serve a variety of ethically-sourced coffee, using coffee grown on women-owned farms "as much as possible."

ICR hopes to open available space to local vendors to display their products, as well as for "indoor arts and crafts fairs."

Those hoping to get some work done in a quiet space will be able to rent a shared workspace.

Its proposed hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.

Where will Idyll Coffee Roasters be located?

Wauwatosa's Community Development Authority has been accepting redevelopment proposals for the vacant office building at 6330 W. North Ave. in East Tosa since 2018.
Wauwatosa's Community Development Authority has been accepting redevelopment proposals for the vacant office building at 6330 W. North Ave. in East Tosa since 2018.

ICR will be located at 6330 W. North Ave., a long-vacant city-owned property that the city's been taking proposals on for redevelopment since 2018.

The business's proposal says instead of razing the building, "area residents and passersby will be presented with a visually stunning example of what can be achieved by renovation."

ICR hopes to become a "community hub" that will help the location "never again go unnoticed."

Who is behind Idyll Coffee Roasters?

Behind the plans for ICR are co-owners Karen Kurgan, Amy Tamburrino, Peter Sohnle and Dave Tamburrino.

Kurgan has over 20 years of experience as a café manager for Colectivo Coffee, her LinkedIn profile says.

Galbraith Carnahan Architects and Dahlman Construction are redeveloping the site, city documents say.

When will Idyll Coffee Roasters open?

First proposed to city officials in March, ICR's plans were unanimously approved by Wauwatosa's plan commission on July 10.

While it's set for common council approval on July 18, ICR's opening date hasn't been publicly announced yet.
