Cafe 871 brings upscale dining and southern Creole cuisine to Biloxi
Howard Avenue is continuing its gradual transformation as a cultural and foodie hotspot within the heart of Biloxi. Among the latest additions along that growing stretch is Cafe 871, located just across the street from the Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral.
Deep teal walls pair with a golden ceiling here, creating an elegant vibe that’s accentuated with a soft piano sound floating through the tables.
During lunch, it’s quaint. People pop in for brief midday meetings in a calming atmosphere. The decor that surrounds is Mississippi Coast with a splash of New Orleans.
The versatile aesthetic represents the restaurant’s approach well. Beyond the unique lunch and dinner menus, Cafe 871 also hosts various special events. These include live music shows, paint and sips and murder mysteries.
On a cool day just after opening, the setting was serene. The server brought out a shrimp crostini that was doused in a NOLA-style sauce. The French bread came presented with a row of sauteed shrimp that didn’t lack for size.
Those portions held true for the entree, as well. A deep red bowl arrived filled to the brim with penne pasta, chicken, andouille sausage, steak tips, onions and bell peppers.
This pastalaya was served hot and soaked in a Cajun Clfredo sauce. The mountain of Creole flavor was every bit as good as it was filling.
The service was equal to the food .
The lunch menu also includes chicken and waffles, po’boys and the 871 smash burger, complete with bacon and chipotle aioli.
For dinner, you can get an eggplant Parmesan or the shrimp platter. And, of course, there’s a drink menu with wine, beer and cocktails. You can even bring your own spirits and cook up a personal cocktail.
You don’t want to miss Sunday brunch, either. Reservations are highly encouraged for the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. brunch session, whose menu features omelets and eggs Benedict options. On the sweet side, there’s cinnamon roll mini waffles topped with white chocolate sauce.
For an upscale experience that won’t break the bank, Cafe 871 is the latest to bring its culinary artistry to the Coast.
