Outlander season 7 part 1 spoilers follow.

Claire Beauchamp actress Caitriona Balfe has delved into filming Outlander season 7's most incendiary scene yet.

In the third episode, the picturesque Fraser's Ridge property is set ablaze by the enemies of Claire and her husband Jamie, and during Balfe's exclusive interview with Digital Spy, she explained why it was so tough to capture for the cameras.

"It's one of the most beautiful settings, where we film. It was one of, I think, all of our favourite places to go film," she began.

"This house was right on a little hill that kind of rolled down into a beautiful river and there was the valley that you could look down and see mountains on either side. It was really, really special."

Balfe, who's starring in espionage thriller The Amateur opposite Rami Malek and Laurence Fishburne next year, was struck by the inherent strangeness of the house's destruction.

"It's so strange how you become so emotionally attached to things – you know, that is the place where we filmed all of Brianna and Roger's wedding, and so many things. And there's a scene that Sam [Heughan] and I shot, after the events [of the fire] at that location," she said.

"It really was such an emotional scene to film, you just felt the loss and the grief of a place and a home, I suppose. It's crazy, you spend so much time in this make-believe world that it feels very, very real to you a lot of the time."

Outlander season 7 part 1 airs on Starz in the US, and streams on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
