Cajun, brunch and chicken wing chains make plans for Fayetteville-area locations

Fayetteville-area food openings and plans for restaurants coming soon were revealed in September.

Among the chains planning locations in Cumberland County are a breakfast and brunch franchise, a Texas-founded Cajun spot and a national chicken wing restaurant.

Locally owned eateries made moves last month too, with a recently closed Fayetteville barbecue restaurant announcing plans for a new Raeford spot; a Creole-inspired late-night stop opening on Yadkin Road; and a pop culture cafe coming to Cumberland Road.

Here is the latest in the Fayetteville-area food scene.

Planned at Cross Creek Mall: Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe

You may soon be able to grab a bite of Cajun food while shopping at Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville.

The city will review preliminary plans for a Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe at 571 Cross Creek Mall this week.

Founded in 1991, the chain’s 24 locations are primarily in its home state of Texas, with two in North Carolina in Concord and Winston-Salem and one in Oklahoma.

Razzoo’s features Cajun food like boudin, po’boys and blackened fish. A variety of seafood, spicy pasta and salads are also on the menu.

Company representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.

Coming to Raeford: Stewart’s Tavern

Customers were heartbroken when Fowler’s Southern Gourmet in Fayetteville closed this summer. However, it seems that the former restaurant’s locally sourced Southern fare and scratch-made sauces may reappear in Raeford.

A Sept. 26 post to Fowler’s Facebook page announced that the “spirit and flavors” of the former restaurant are finding a new home at the forthcoming Stewart’s Tavern in Raeford.

The new restaurant will have extended hours and a full bar, according to the post.

Fowler’s management did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

Coming to Hope Mills: Wingstop

An aviation-themed chain chicken wing restaurant with celebrity investors like rapper Rick Ross is planning a Hope Mills location.

Renovations are underway for a Wingstop at 3065 Hope Mills Road, which follows the chain’s first Cumberland County outpost on Skibo Road.

Founded in 1994 in Garland, Texas, the chain has 1,500 locations worldwide. Wingstop serves wings of varying heat levels in such flavors as Atomic, Hickory Smoked BBQ, Garlic Parmesan, Hawaiian accompanied by dipping sauces of ranch, blue cheese or honey mustard.

Company representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

Coming to Hope Mills: Eggs Up Grill

A South Carolina-born breakfast and brunch franchise announced its first Cumberland County location is coming to Hope Mills.

Eggs Up Grill is preparing a December opening at 2951 Town Center Drive in the Traemoor Village Shopping Center in Hope Mills.

The 3,500-square-foot restaurant, which seats 130, will serve dishes like pancakes, omelets, grits, home fries, muffins and biscuits and gravy alongside salads, sandwiches and burgers.

Established in 1997, the franchise has 67 locations in the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Tennessee and Alabama and about another 100 stores planned.

Business hours are expected to be 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. The restaurant will begin hiring staff later this year, To keep an eye on job openings visit eggsupgrill.com/careers.

Open at a new location: A Taste of Big Boi’s

A Creole-inspired restaurant with a cult social media following has set up shop in a new Fayetteville location.

A Taste of Big Boi’s appears to have opened in early September at 5701 Yadkin Road, Suite 144 in Ponderosa Shopping Center.

Located in the former Italiano’s Pizza & subs, A Taste of Big Boi’s serves daily a menu of smash burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries, wings, cheesesteaks, hot subs, salads and milkshakes for lunch and late-night.

The restaurant is open 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Monday-Friday; noon to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Online ordering for pickup and delivery is available on Doordash and GrubHub.

Open: High Noon Cafe

Customers can sip custom drinks while browsing Star Wars, Pokemon and anime wares at a new Fayetteville shop.

High Noon Cafe opened Sept. 1 at 4582 Cumberland Road, Suite 116, in the Wingate Crossing shopping center. The pop culture retail shop stocks games, comic books, apparel and posters, and serves specialty sodas, coffee and baked goods.

Business hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday and Monday.
