Gala Goes to Mardi Gras

The Gala Goes to Mardi Gras, a party with food, creative cocktails and silent auction, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Mardi Gras Hall, 7880 W. Main St. in downtown Houma.

The event, presented by Louis Mohana Furniture, is the local Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s signature fundraising event.

Bull-riding is back

James Pierce’s 8 Seconds to Glory Champion Bull Riding returns to Houma on Saturday.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m. at the Barry Bonvillain Civic Center, 346 Civic Center Blvd.

Tickets, starting at $14, are available at Ticketmaster.com or at the Civic Center Box Office.

The event is sponsored by the Thibodaux Regional Medical Center Cancer Institute.

Krewe of Mardi Gras Chili Cook-off

The Krewe of Mardi Gras will host its 22nd annual chili cook-off from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the East Park Recreation Center, 107 Robert St. in Houma.

Teams of one or two can enter with a $50 fee and for a chance to win a $1,000 first-place prize. The event includes a raffle drawing for a $1,500 top prize and a live auction.

Paws for a Cause Trivia Night

The Friends of the Terrebonne Animal Shelter will hold a benefit trivia night Saturday at the Bayou Blue Hall, 2221 Bayou Blue Road.

The evening will also include door prizes and a raffle. Register from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the door. Trivia contest starts at 6 p.m. Registration for teams of six people costs $150.

Luminate Houma

Enjoy a free concert by the local band No Posers this Saturday, part of the Luminate Houma series.

The show runs 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Memorial Park next to Lumiere Blues & Jazz Bistro, 7913 W Main St. in downtown Houma.

Drinks will be served by Lumiere Blues & Jazz Bistro and Bayou Terrebonne Distillers.

It's sponsored by the Bayou Regional Arts Council.

The Folklife Culture Center, 317 Goode St. in Houma, will host two more Cajun dance lessons this month: from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 13 and 20.

Lessons cost $5 per person each week.
