Out of calamity days, Hillsdale implements remote learning for school cancellation days

Hillsdale Local Schools has implemented remote learning for when school is canceled because of bad weather.

The district used its last of five calamity days the week of Jan 15, according to information on the district website.

"As the district implements this approach, parents, students, and staff are encouraged to work together to make the transition as smooth as possible," the district posted. "Embracing remote learning during weather-related cancellations ensures that educational continuity is maintained, aligning with the district's mission to empower students through diverse opportunities."

Remote learning expectations

Along with implementing remote learning, Hillsdale Local Schools established curricular expectations for students and teachers.

For instructional expectations, teachers are to continue providing learning experiences for students. They will use tech tools to enhance instruction and make it available for students remotely. Teachers are to communicate with students and parents through Remind, Dojo or Google Classroom.

If students are struggling, teachers are to be available7:45 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Teachers may not be able to respond right away if they are teaching live.

For pre-k to fourth grade students, teachers will have Falcon Bags with lessons that are designed to continue learning. Teachers also may choose to include instructional videos. The videos posted in Class Dojo or Google Classroom will have instructions if students are using personal devices.

While remote learning, pre-k to fourth grade students will not have access to school Chromebooks.

For grades five-12 students, teachers will continue with lessons as normal as possible. They may choose to host live meetings as well.

Teachers will post assignments in Google Classroom.
