Caldwell County offers Christmas tree removal services

Dec. 28—CALDWELL COUNTY — Now that Christmas is over, it's time to start packing up the decorations for another year. Luckily, county residents have plenty of options to have their Christmas trees removed.

Many municipalities in Caldwell County offer free Christmas tree removal services. Residents are asked to first remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and decorations from the trees. Christmas trees are not allowed in regular waste bins.

The city of Lenoir will pick up real Christmas trees from Monday, Jan. 2, to Friday, Jan. 6. Place trees behind the curb or ditch line, so as not to impede pedestrian or vehicle movement.

Residents of the town of Sawmills can call 828-396-7903 and place a regular work order for Christmas trees to be removed.

The town of Granite Falls will incorporate Christmas tree removal into their regular brush and limb collection service next week. Old Christmas trees can be placed at the curb with the "butt" of the tree facing the street. Granite Falls Public Works staff will use chippers on the trees when weather permits, and the chippings will be given out to citizens or taken to the mulch yard and reused to make mulch.

Public Works staff for the town of Hudson will work to pick up Christmas trees along with the regular leaf pick up schedule through the end of January.

Citizens in the town of Rhodhiss may bring their old Christmas trees to a waste disposal site located at 203 Park Ave.

The town of Gamewell, the village of Cedar Rock, and the town of Cajah's Mountain do not offer Christmas tree removal services. However, citizens in those municipalities may bring their old trees to the landfill at 2800 Cheraw Road in Lenoir.

Please do not bring Christmas trees to the county's Convenience Centers. These centers are for household waste and recycling only.

Trees can also be sunk into a pond or other body of water to make a feeding area for fish. Individuals are urged to check with local officials before doing so.

Caldwell County citizens have many options available to them to dispose of their Christmas trees in ways that are convenient and safe for the environment.
