Caldwell School Event Honors Principal Who Died Of COVID

CALDWELL AND WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Late Grover Cleveland Middle School Principal James Brown, who died of COVID in April 2020, will be remembered next month when representatives of local service groups speak at a day of service at the school.

"While the loss has been devastating, we at Grover Cleveland Middle school endeavor to honor Mr. Brown’s legacy and mission," said a school representative this week. "He believed that everyone should look to be of service to others. He lived this mission by his example as a husband, father, son, brother, coach and principal."

Among his achievements, Brown had created an annual day of service to highlight, for the students, the members of the community who are making a difference to others.

On April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the middle school will hold its annual “Make A Difference Day” in Brown's honor, as they did last year.

A school representative said, "We are excited to announce that this event will be taking place in person this year and we have over 40 presenters coming to Grover Cleveland Middle School for this event!"

Current Principal John Bertollo said, "Together, we will make this a great day, continue with Mr. Brown’s vision, and celebrate those who Make A Difference."

Speakers will include representatives from:

● Wounded Warrior Project
● Make-A-Wish Foundation
● Jay Fund
● Tackle Kids Cancer
● New Jersey Special Olympics
● Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
● Boys & Girls Club
● The Seeing Eye
● Local Authors, Artists, Motivational Speakers, & Non-Profit Organizations
● Local Officials: Public Officials and Board of Education members
● Public Service: Fire/Police/EMT members
