Caleb Burton, 4-star receiver from same Texas school as Garrett Wilson, signs with Ohio State

It worked out pretty well the last time Ohio State signed a Lake Travis High School receiver.

The Buckeyes hope it works again.

Ohio State signed wide receiver Caleb Burton from the suburban Austin, Texas, powerhouse program Wednesday on National Signing Day. It's the same high school that Ohio State standout, and likely NFL first round pick, Garrett Wilson went to and is also the alma mater of Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Live: Who's signing with Ohio State football on National Signing Day

Burton is the third Lake Travis Cavalier to sign with Ohio State since 2018, joining Wilson (2019) and quarterback Matthew Baldwin (2018). Baldwin later transferred to TCU.

Burton played at Del Valle High School, also an Austin suburb, where his father Charles was the head coach, but Charles Burton accepted a job on the Lake Travis coaching staff which brought his standout son to the program this past season.

Burton had already committed to Ohio State before transferring high schools.

The 6-foot, 165-pound Burton is a four-star recruit and the No. 68-ranked player in the country according to 247 Sports Composite rankings. He is the No. 13 ranked recruit in the state of Texas.

He is one of two Texans headed to Ohio State in the Class of 2022, the other being four-star defensive back Terrence Brooks.

It's smooth sailing for Caleb Burton as he scores his first touchdown of the season, taking a pass from Isaac Norris 41 yards to give Lake Travis a 7-0 lead against Arlington Martin.

Caleb Burton to join a still loaded Ohio State wide receiver group

Despite losing senior Chris Olave and likely losing the junior Wilson, Ohio State is likely bringing back a talented group at receiver, led by record-breaking sophomore, and yet another Texan, Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The group also includes Julian Fleming, Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr.

Where Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class ranks

Ohio State entered December's early National Signing Day with the No.4-ranked recruiting class.

They trail Alabama, Georgia and Texas A&M. Those three programs plan to sign at least three five-star recruits each.

When is the next National Signing Day?

In 2017, the NCAA brought back the early signing day for football. It went into effect in 2018. But before that, the first Wednesday of February was National Signing Day for football recruits.

The next signing will be Feb. 2.

However, recruits don’t have to sign that day. Last year, Ohio State signed J.T. Tuimoloau in the summer.

How does Ohio State's 2023 recruiting class look right now?

As of now, Ohio State has two commitments in its 2023 class. Tight end Tyler Lockwood of Independence, Tenn. (four stars) and Dayton Wayne standout lineman Joshua Padilla (four stars) have committed to Ohio State.
