  1. A long-awaited Mexican restaurant has finally opened on 30th Avenue in Astoria. California-style Mexican restaurant Calexico opened last week at 32-07 30th Ave., and is the company’s first location in Queens and represents its fifth in New York City. The restaurant was initially scheduled to open in early 2020 but its plans were thrown off course when COVID-19 struck. (Astoria Post)

  2. Police are investigating after a mother of two was shot to death outside of her home in Jamaica on Friday morning. 39-year-old Dawn Peterson was approached by a man in front of her home, before being shot multiple times in her chest and back. The shooting happened near Foch Boulevard and 155th Street just before 6:30 a.m. (CBS New York)

  3. A Middle Village man will do prison time for making threats online to kill a U.S. senator. Eduard Florea, 41, was sentenced Thursday to 33 months in prison after pleading guilty in August to a weapons charge and making threats. Florea, a self-proclaimed Proud Boy, was arrested Jan. 12 at his home on 76th Street near Eliot Avenue. (Ridgewood Post)
