California announces order preventing debt collectors from taking stimulus funds

California Gov. Newsom announced that 21 out of the state's 24 largest loan servicers will offer a 90-day forbearance on student loan debt, impacting over 1.1 million Californians with loan debt. Newsom also signed an executive order that denies the ability of debt collectors to garnish stimulus funds. The order does not apply to those who owe child support or alimony.
