California boy, 10, fatally shoots another 10-year-old after losing a bicycle race, the victim’s mother says.

10-year-old Keith Frierson was killed by another 10-year-old after an informal bike race. Frierson lost the race, which was outside his apartment building on Saturday afternoon, and reportedly was shot by a 10-year-old friend of his upset over the results. Medical personnel arrived and found Frierson unresponsive, bleeding from the head and neck.

The child who shot Frierson allegedly took the gun from his father’s truck and tried to hide it in a trash can after the shooting. He then ran into an apartment presumed to be his family’s. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrested the boy, who remains unidentified, and his father, 53-year-old Arkete Davis. Mr. Davis is being held on a $500,000 bail for firearms related charges, endangerment of a child, and accessory after the fact.

Frierson’s mother Brittani Frierson said, “My baby… asked me can he go outside to ride. Not even 15 minutes later, my baby was gone. All because he was enjoying a race with some other kids he considered his friends on his new bike. This wasn’t supposed to happen. It’s not OK.”
