The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was the king. Limited-production, high-octane, built for the drag strip, it was the ultimate peak of Dodge's ever-growing mountain of horsepower, 840 supercharged ponies when filled with race gas. When the Demon debuted, Dodge put safeguards in place to prevent dealers from hoarding allocations and charging ridiculous markups. Thanks to a discovery by Jalopnik, we know those precautions weren't quite foolproof.

Jalopnik writer Lawrence Hodge discovered a dealer in California with 16 brand-new Dodge Demons for sale. For a car limited to 3000 units, that ceased production in June of 2018, that's quite a few to keep around. Many dealers only got the chance to sell a single Demon; most typical Dodge dealers never sold one at all. Amassing this many brand-new, never-registered Demons shows dedication.

Don't think it's for idle appreciation of the machine. Huntington Beach Dodge didn't just collect these Demons for love of the model. They're out to make a big payday. According to Jalopnik, when reached for pricing, a sales manager admitted, reluctantly, that the dealer wants $200,000 for each. No wonder they don't list that price online—the Demon debuted with an $85,000 MSRP. Then again, that might not be such a crazy price: A 12-mile example on Bring a Trailer recently sold for $155,000. The dealer told Jalopnik all 16 examples are zero-mile cars, never registered to an owner, and thus, technically, still brand-new. Does that make them worth more than a Demon with a dozen miles? Guess Huntington Beach Dodge is willing to find out.
