California International Marathon is just days away. Here are road closures, other details

In less than a week Sacramento’s streets will be hosting the annual California International Marathon, where more than 9,000 runners will take on the 26-mile route throughout Sacramento.

CIM is organized by the Sacramento Running Association and is popular among runners who want to qualify into the Boston Marathon and U.S. Olympic Trials.

With the race days away, here’s everything you should know if you plan to watch or just live in the area.

When and where

The California International Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4.

It will kick off at 7 a.m. at the Folsom Dam and end in Sacramento at the state Capitol.

Running route

The California International Marathon begins in Folsom. Runners will work their way through Citrus Heights, Orangevale, Fair Oaks and end the route at the state Capitol .

Street closures

There will be scheduled road closures starting Friday, Dec. 2, in Sacramento.

The marathon route will open as runners move through the course. The road closure grid “is based on a 3:00 min/mile pace for the first racers (hand crank wheelchair) and approximately a 13:44 min/mile pace for the slowest runners.”

Below is a list of streets affected, according to the Sacramento Running Association website on scheduled road closures.

Friday, Dec. 2, scheduled closures

Streets will be closed at the Capitol Mall between 8th and 9th streets starting at 8 a.m. They are scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

9th Street between N and L streets will be closed starting at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2. It will reopen at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Saturday, Dec. 3, scheduled closures

8th and 10th streets between N and L streets will be closed starting at 6 a.m. They will reopen at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

Sunday, Dec 4, scheduled closure

Starting at 3 a.m., north of the race start area at Folsom-Auburn Road will be closed to traffic from the intersection with Eureka Road and is scheduled to reopen at 9:30 a.m.

Temporary race-day closures

The following list of street closures will take place on race day. The times listed below are based on the race organizer’s estimates of when runners will be passing. These closure times are subject to change.

Streets closing at 5:20 a.m.

  • Folsom-Auburn Road and Oak Avenue will re-open at 7:50 a.m.

  • American River Canyon Drive and Oak Avenue will re-open at 8:05 am.

  • San Juanita and Oak avenues will re-open at 8:05 a.m.

Streets closing at 6:15 a.m.

  • California Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 10:50 a.m.

  • Manzanita Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 11:00 a.m.

Streets closing at 6:50 a.m.

  • April Street and Oak Avenue will re-open at 8:20 a.m.

  • Beech and Oak avenues will re-open at 8:30a.m.

  • Wachtel Way and Oak Avenue will re-open at 8:50 a.m.

  • Oak Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 9:00 a.m.

  • Woodlake Hills Drive and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 9:20 a.m.

  • Greenback Lane and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 9:30 a.m.

Streets closing at 7 a.m.

  • 15th and L streets will re-open at 4 p.m.

  • 8th and L streets will re-open at 4 p.m.

Streets closing at 7:05 a.m.

  • Niessen Way and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 9:35 a.m.

  • Maddison Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 9:40 a.m.

  • Dorian Way and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 10:00 a.m.

  • Winding Way and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 10:10 a.m.

  • Sunrise and Fair Oaks boulevards will re-open at 10:10 a.m.

  • New York Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 10:20 a.m.

  • Hollister Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 10:40 a.m.

Streets closing at 7:30 a.m.

  • Grant Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 11:10 a.m.

  • Kenneth Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 11:30 a.m.

  • Garfield Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 11:40 a.m.

  • Paloma Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 11:55 a.m.

  • Saverien Drive and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 12 p.m.

  • Coronado and Fair Oaks boulevards will re-open at 12:30 p.m.

  • Watt Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 1 p.m.

  • Hawthorn Road and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 1 p.m.

  • University Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 1 p.m.

Streets closing at 8 a.m.

  • Munroe Street and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 1 p.m.

  • Howe Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard will re-open at 1 p.m.

  • Carlson Drive and J Street will re-open at 1:15 p.m.

  • Bear Flag Way and J Street will re-open at 1:30 p.m.

  • 33rd and J streets will re-open at 1:45 p.m.

  • J Street and Alhambra Boulevard turn will re-open at 1:45 p.m.

  • L and 29th streets will re-open at 1:45 p.m.

  • 22nd and L streets will re-open at 2:05 p.m.

Cheer from the sidelines

There will be designated areas throughout the race where spectators will have the opportunity to cheer for CIM runners as they race to the finish line.

California Capitol at the finish

Show up at the Capitol to watch runners cross the finish line.

The official finish festival will open to the public at 8:30 a.m. on race day. To enter the finish festival, spectators will need to pass through one of the nine designated security checkpoint.
