California’s lieutenant governor on Wednesday sent a letter calling for the secretary of state to explore options for taking former President Donald Trump’s name off California’s 2024 presidential primary ballot. Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis’ letter to Secretary of State Shirley Weber comes after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled this week that Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, riots at the Capitol disqualified him from standing for the presidential election as part of the 14th Amendment’s ban on insurrectionists.
