California Secretary of State Shirley Weber handily lead a pack that included six challengers in Tuesday's primary, winning 1,937,249 votes, or 58.8%.

The secretary of state oversees elections for the state, plus every California county. The job also requires maintaining the state’s campaign finance, lobbying and business records.

Weber, a Democrat, was a longtime state legislator who was appointed to the job last year after Alex Padilla was named to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated when Kamala Harris became vice president.

She will face off in the November general election against Republican Rob Bernosky, who garnered 641,214 votes, or 19.5%. According to his LinkedIn profile, Bernosky has served as chief financial officer for several companies, including Skyline Advanced Technology Services in Campbell and the luxury apparel company Robert Talbott.

Weber holds a Ph.D. from UCLA and was a longtime faculty member in Africana Studies at San Diego State University. She served four terms as an Assemblymember representing California's 79th District, which includes parts of San Diego as well as other nearby communities.

GOP Rachel Hamm, a conservative author and concert promoter who was endorsed by controversial MyPilllow CEO Mike Lindell and short-lived Trump Administration National Security Advisor Lt. Gen Michael Flynn, came in third with 376,559 votes, or 11.4%.

Elections officials have 30 days to process and verify all ballots received. The secretary of state's office said Tuesday that election results will be finalized by July 15.
