John Cox kicks off his campaign calling it the "Meet the Beast Bus Tour"

Video Transcript

JOHN COX: We can make this state beautiful again. We can make this state work again. And it starts by the way with making sure that we have integrity with politics. As many of you know from the last campaign, I hate corruption, and I'm going to call out corruption whether it's Republican or Democrat. And I think the people want integrity as well. You know, integrity is the coin of the realm. If a leader is not believed, he's not going to-- he or she is not going to be followed. We need to make sure we have integrity.

Gavin Newsom, our pretty-boy governor, has demonstrated he doesn't have that. He gives no-bid contracts all over the place, to the people who make huge donations to his campaigns and to his charities. That's a conflict of interest. That's corruption. And that's one of the reasons California is in the condition it's in today.

And how is this for a beastly idea? How about we have our legislators actually read the bills before they vote on them? How's that for a beastly idea? That's going to shake things up in Sacramento, isn't it? Well, let me tell you-- Gavin Newsom is the ultimate insider. He's not going to solve these problems. We need somebody from the outside, and that's me.

I built a business over 40 years of hard work, solving problems and delivering results. My background-- growing up without a father, working my way up-- gives me the toughness, the beastliness, if you want to put it that way, to address these problems and call it like it is. My experience as a business person gives me that knowledge to bring people together, actually work to solve these problems with common-sense solutions. And my faith and my family give me the will to want to do this job.

There's a lot of other things I could be doing, but this is the most important for millions of Californians forgotten, Californians that need a better life. And that's what I'm going to do. Let me tell you-- this election is an opportunity, this recall is an opportunity to have a dialogue and a discussion about the real solutions we need to make California better for all of us. It's a choice between the beauty and the beast. Well, we've seen with the beauty has done. I think it's time to unleash the beast.
