California's 'Grapevine' Highway Closed Due to Snow, Extreme Winds

The California Highway Patrol closed “the Grapevine,” or Interstate 5 in California, in both directions on January 14 due to extreme conditions caused by heavy snowfall and high winds.

Caltrans District 7 warned motorists to avoid the area, saying, “If you must travel, motorists should take first-aid kits, blankets, flash lights, snacks and water.” CHP reported “multiple overturned big rigs” due to wind. Credit: Jeannine LC via Storyful
