Call 3-1-1 to get trash, bulky items picked up in Sacramento

(FOX40.COM) — Residents of Sacramento can start scheduling appointments with the city to have trash, yard waste, and bulky items picked up and thrown away for free.

According to the city of Sacramento, all residential customers can call 3-1-1, or use the Sac 311 app between February and October and participate in the city’s Free Household Junk Pickup program. Each resident can make two appointments for the free pickup.

Items must be put out for collection 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.

“Please note, if an appointment is scheduled and not canceled by 5:00 pm two business days before the pickup date, the customer’s account will be charged for one free pickup,” the city said. “If the customer has already used their two free pickups, they may be charged a fee for the canceled pickup.”

The following items are acceptable to put out for Household Junk Pickup.

  • Furniture

  • Mattresses

  • Carpet

  • Toys

  • Pipe (up to 6 feet)

  • Wood and Lumber (up to 6 feet)

  • Yard Waste (must be separate from other waste)

    • Includes leaves, grass, sod, and limbs (must be cut to 3 feet in length and 4 inches or less in diameter)

These items will NOT be accepted, per Household Junk Pickup guidelines.

  • Hazardous Waste (these items can be taken to a Household Hazard Waste Facility)

  • Explosives

  • Radioactive material

  • Bio-hazards

  • Gas canisters

  • Paint

  • Construction debris

  • Tires mounted on the rim

  • Treated Wood

Suppose you have used your two free appointments for the year or need to arrange for a pickup during Leaf Season (November, December, or January). You can call the City Utility Billing department at (916) 808-5454. A special service pickup has a minimum fee of $39.48.
