Call the Midwife has shared an adorable behind-the-scenes video of the Turner family during season 13 filming.

Sharing a sweet update via Instagram, the official Call the Midwife account posted a clip of Laura Main (who plays Shelagh Turner) keeping her on-screen children entertained in-between takes.

In the video, Main can be seen alongside her character's children - Teddy (Edward Shaw), May (April Rae Hoang) and Angela (Alice Brown) - leading them through a series of light exercises while on-set.

The caption read: "A filming day can be a long and dull one if you're young - and so our own lovely Laura Main, who plays Shelagh Turner, has devised a novel way to keep her onscreen brood perked up and ready for their close-ups!!"

The caption also hinted at what's to come for the family in the new season, adding that 1969 will be a "real revelation" for the Turner family as the children grow older.

Main has played Shelagh Turner the show since its premiere in 2012, with her character starting the show as a nun before leaving the Order to marry and start a family with Doctor Turner (Stephen McGann).

Season 13 of the long-running BBC series is currently in production, with a Christmas special set to hit our screens over the festive period before the new season airs in 2024.

Meanwhile Helen George, who plays Nurse Trixie Franklin, has promised "lots of babies" in the new season. Speaking on Zoe Ball's Radio 2 breakfast show, the actress said she couldn't give too much away but there will be plenty of "shocks" in the new episodes.

"We're filming at the moment. So I'm sort of discovering the stories as we go along. It's another exciting year, lots of babies," she said.

Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
