‘This was the right call’: Sony praised for postponing PS5 event amid George Floyd protests
Sony has been praised for postponing its much-hyped game reveal event for the upcoming PS5 console, amid nationwide protests following the killing of George Floyd.
The event was scheduled to take place this Thursday, and was expected to announce several of the titles which will be available on the PS5.
In a statement posted to Twitter, PlayStation wrote: ”We have decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 event scheduled for June 4.”
“While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration and for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”
While some gamers have inevitably expressed disappointment at the decision, the majority of responses have commended Sony for making the right decision.
“June 4th is George Floyd’s memorial service,” wrote one Twitter user. “Thank you Playstation for postponing the PS5 event and allowing more important voices to be heard. Stay safe everyone.”
“Don’t complain about Sony’s decision for delaying the PS5’s future of gaming event,” wrote another. “Of course we’re all disappointed, but this was the right call.”

The PS5 will be released towards the end of 2020, with an exact date still to be announced.
