'Call The Midwife' star Helen George pregnant with second child

Call The Midwife star Helen George has announced that she's pregnant with her second baby.

The actor, best known for playing feisty nun Trixie Franklin on the heartwarming BBC series, posted a photo on Instagram today to reveal the news.

Standing under a tree in her garden, George was seen in a floor-length floral dress and cradling her growing bump.

She wrote alongside it: "Baking number 2. Due in December."

This is Helen and partner Jack Ashton's second child together, joining three-year-old daughter, Wren Ivy.

The couple met on the set of Call The Midwife, with Ashton playing Reverance Tom Hereward, a love interest for Trixie.

However, while the on-screen relationship broke down, the real-life couple have remained together ever since.

Much like her character, George was open about the struggles she faced during her first pregnancy, with Wren being born three weeks prematurely due to developing a liver condition.

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a build-up of acid in the body. It can cause premature or stillborn births and affects 5,500 women every year.

Thankfully, George was able to deliver her baby girl safely.

Call The Midwife is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, with George's Trixie one of the show's defining faces.

Over the course of the last series, viewers became hopeful that she may have finally found love with a widowed father.

Unfortunately, viewers will have to wait until Christmas to see if their romance blossoms, with the series confirmed to make a comeback for its annual festive special.
