In calling Alec Mills’ Cubs no-hitter, Marquee’s Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies match the moment, but Bob Uecker unfortunately commits an error on the final play

It’s a special thing when the quality of a baseball call matches the moment, just as Chicago Cubs TV announcers Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies delivered Sunday for the final out of Alec Mills’ no-hitter against the Brewers in the Cubs’ 12-0 victory in Milwaukee.

There also was a twinge of sadness when you heard beloved veteran Brewers voice Bob Uecker, a veritable national treasure, boot the call when Jace Peterson grounded out to Javier Baez to end the game.

For a historical record, it would be tough to beat what Pat Hughes gave listeners on Cubs radio flagship WSCR-AM 670 as Mills went into his windup with two outs.

Hughes laid everything out with his usual precision.
