Calling all heroes: Warford Activity Center seeks do-gooders to attend Super Hero Bash

The Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department and the Charles E. Warford Activity Center is inviting all heroes to attend their Super Hero Bash, Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center located at 1330 NW 18th Ave.

The event will be an evening of hero-themed dinner, dessert, and activities including the superhero durability tests, testing strength, accuracy and quickness. Some activities include the Thor hammer throw and obstacle course, Hawkeye's Archery Station, a Nerf gun station, Giant Slingshot, and a photo op station to capture the best photos with the heroes.

Gloria Torres, Amarillo Parks and Recreation Marketing Coordinator, recognizes that the event may be more geared towards male attendees but also encourages female heroes' attendance, stating a hero gained their superpowers regardless of gender.

"We want the kids to come and be who they want and have a blast. ... Women are just as capable and as strong as men are, and we want to encourage all who want to attend, no matter their heroes. I know there are some little boys who might look up to Wanda and Wonder Woman and, vice versa, little girls who look up to Superman and Captain America; we just want them to have a good time," Torres said.

During the event, superheroes such as Thor, Dr. Strange, Wanda Vision, Wonder Woman and more will be in attendance to hang out with the new heroes in attendance.

"With the Super Hero Bash, they get to portray their role model, and it's just super nice to let them be free from whatever life events are happening and express whatever they envision for themselves and portray whatever superhero powers they envision themselves to have," Torres added.

Costumes are encouraged. Tickets are available for $20. Ages 2 and younger receive free admission. Attendees must register by Feb. 19; no walk-ins will be accepted.
