It’s official: A premiere date for season 9 of When Calls the Heart has been set, but it’s not what Hearties were expecting.

The beginning of a new year means a new season of the Hallmark original series and after almost one year without new episodes, fans are more than ready to see what their favorite Hope Valley residents have been up to. Since the historical drama first debuted in 2014, WCTH viewers have become accustomed to tuning in every February to follow Elizabeth's (Erin Krakow) adventures. But this time around, folks were caught off guard over a subtle but significant change.

It all started on January 2 when the official WCTH Instagram account shared a new teaser. In the 14-second clip, Elizabeth and Lucas (Chris McNally) have a sweet moment on a hot air balloon. “Check out the latest promo from @hallmarkchannel! Notice anything new? Season Nine debuting in March! Stay tuned for the official premiere date!” the show captioned the video.

After taking in what the announcement was saying, Hearties immediately began flooding the comments section with same question. “March?!?!? #oh no!!!” one person wrote. “Wow!!! Really making us wait until March?!?!” another added. “They can’t break tradition! It’s supposed to be released in February. 😂,” a different fan said.

“March?! I thought it was February?” a follower commented to which the show responded, “@hallmarkchannel had not yet announced a date for Season Nine. This is the first info they’ve shared regarding the release date.”

And technically, this is true. Back in May, Erin was the first to share that WCTH would be returning with a ninth installment, but she didn’t give a date. What’s more, at the end of her video there was a message that read, “Coming 2022.”

Although lots of fans were confident that it would come back in February like in past years, many didn't harp on the change of plans for too long. A few days later, on January 5, the network officially revealed that WCTH season 9 is premiering on Sunday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET. (Good Housekeeeping confirmed the updated time with Hallmark's parent company, Crown Media.)

Without skipping a beat, viewers burst into celebration with a slew of joyful emojis. “Yayyy finallyyy can’t wait!!! ❤️❤️,” someone wrote. “Whoohoo! So excited ♥️🥳,” another said. “So exciting!!! 🎉❤️,” a fan commented. “Yay!!! Now I can start an official countdown. Cannot wait…best show on Tv. Thank you @wcth_tv! ❤️,” a different person added.

You can bet we are also joining on that countdown! According to Entertainment Tonight, fans will be treated to 12 new episodes full of "romance, drama and friendship." Plus, there will be a few new faces in town, including that of Mei Suo (Amanda Wong) who catches Nathan (Kevin McGarry)'s eye.
