Calshot Spit: Two rescued after small plane crashes into water in Southampton
Two people have been rescued after a small plane crashed into water on England’s south coast.
An aircraft went down into the sea over Calshot Spit in Southampton on Sunday afternoon, according to HM Coastguard.
Both people onboard were found by a nearby vessel, the coastguard said.
Images of the plane crash show a small aircraft and a parachute in the water near the shore.
HM Coastguard said they received numerous reports around 2.45pm on Sunday a light aircraft had gone into the water off Calshot Spit on the Solent.
“It was confirmed two people were onboard the aircraft,” the coastguard said.
“Both people were able to climb out of the aircraft after it came down.”
The pair were taken to a lifeboat station after they were found by a nearby boat and rescued.

“Neither person required medical assistance and both were declared well by the South Central Ambulance Service,” HM Coastguard said.
Local police shared images of the damaged plane upside down on a pebbly beach, as well as when it was further out at sea.
“Thankfully no causalities,” Waterside Police said in the tweet.
