Texas Tech freshman Brya Brewer set a personal record in the triple jump Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, going 44 feet, 4 inches.

That mark ranks sixth in NCAA Division I this season, pending the results of meet elsewhere this weekend. Brewer was a state champion for Cedar Hill and the nation's top-ranked girls' high-school triple jumper last year.

Competing in the same meet in the men's long jump Friday, Tech's Jalen Seals went 25-9 1/4, good for seventh in Division I this season, pending results elsewhere this weekend.

Tech sent split squads to opposite coasts this week with part of the team at the Mt. SAC Relays and part at the Tom Jones Memorial hosted by Florida.

In the latter, Tech seniors Chloe Wall and Seasons Usual each placed second in their events. Wall cleared 14-1 3/4 in the pole vault, and Usual threw 185-7 in the discus.
