JESSICA D'ONOFRIO: Yeah, Tanya, police have many streets around the scene here blocked off right now. You can see a police cruiser blocking this street off. The standoff started yesterday afternoon and continued overnight. A 52-year-old man, suspected in a shooting, went into a residence in the 100 block of Maple Court and has been inside for hours speaking with negotiators from time to time.

According to officials, this all started yesterday afternoon at around 1:45 PM. Calumet City Police and EMS responded to the 100 block of State Street for a report of a gunshot victim. Officers arrived and found a 62-year-old man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital. His condition unknown at this time.

The 52-year-old suspect in that shooting then went into the residence on Maple. Officers attempted to make contact with him there. And officials say, as officers approached, several shots were fired at the police. Officers did not return fire, they say, and took cover.

KEVIN KOLASH: Negotiators are in contact with the suspect and conversations are continuing.

JESSICA D'ONOFRIO: Now, information so far indicates this was a confrontation between the two men. During the confrontation, the victim sustained gunshot wounds. The suspect may have also sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation, but that has not been confirmed. Now, at this time, the police are not sure how many people are inside that residence. Again, negotiators are in contact with that suspect and the situation is on going.
