Calumet County woman looks to qualify for the 2024 Olympics

HARRISON, Wis. (WFRV) – One woman out of Calumet County is hoping to take her passion for running to an Olympic level.

Kathy VanDehy, from Harrison, Wisconsin, says she is taking part in Olympic trials where she hopes to make the 2024 United States Olympic team as a marathon runner.

VanDehy says she used to be a short sprinter during her time at Hortonville High School and has been running marathons since graduating college.

“I never had any expectations for me. I just kind of went out and started to train and it led me to where I am today.”

Local Five was told that VanDehy left for Orlando at 5 a.m. Thursday morning. She joins Appleton native, Dan Schubert, as another Olympic hopeful from right here in northeast Wisconsin.
